Jewel: Clearanced Granola Bars, Pop-Tarts, Cereal

I was very annoyed by Jewel today. I pushed the kids through the snow to get over there (at some curb snowbanks, actually emptying out the kids and lifting my heavy double stroller over the snow) today because I wanted to buy about 10 bags of Mama Lucia's meatballs for $1 each. I thought I could use them for holiday appetizers and for spaghetti, because I am tired (so tired) of Nutmeg asking "and meatballs?" every time I say we're having spaghetti.

But nooooo, I guess my Jewel doesn't carry that brand. I didn't get a raincheck; by the time I was done we had to rush off to school.

But my hassle is your gain, because while I was there I happened to notice that a lot of granola bars, some Pop-Tarts and some cereals are on clearance for $1.19-$1.79. The clearance deals were marked on the shelf and coded into the barcodes, so I'd think they might be across all or many stores.

I got:

  • 2 boxes of 8-ct Pop-Tarts @ $1.19, using 55-cent expired coupons to make them 65 cents each.
  • 2 6-ct boxes Betty Crocker Fruit Gushers @ $1.49 each, used an expired .50/2 coupon to make them $1.24 each (ideally I like to pay $1 a less but this was ok)
  • 1 12-ct Quaker Sweet & Salty granola bars for 79 cents, after a $1/1 coupon from the inside of a box this was 79 cents. Score!

I got away with the expired coupons cause I was in the self-checkout. I also noticed some Jewel-brand granola bars marked clearance at about the same prices, and some Jewel brand cereals on sale for around $1.80. But since I can get Kellogg's cereals starting tomorrow for 67 cents each, I wasn't too interested in that.

Since I have to go back tomorrow anyway for all kinds of sale items that start then (grr), I will clip and bring these coupons for more granola bars:

$1/2 any variety Quaker granola bars, 11/16 SmartSource

.55/1 or $1/2 on Pop-Tarts from 11/9 RedPlum
