Shopping: Groceries for 11/5 - 11/11 - Holy Free Food, Batman!

OK, you mostly know all about my shopping this week. There was a $34 trip to Fair Share Super Market, highlights being pinto beans for 45 cents a can (at that price, I thought it would be nice to have some beans around that are not dried, so I can make chili on a whim), and 39-cent-a-pound chicken quarters. (At first, this seems like an amazing value when you consier that the same weight in beans would cost twice as much. But after skinning, trimming and cooking all that chicken, I really started to think about how poor a value meat can be compared to beans. This was TEN POUNDS of stuff I took home from the store, and after tons of work preparing it, I ended up with just two meals for the family and one lunch just for me. Most of what I bought was bones. Can you imagine how long ten pounds of beans would feed my family?)

Then, there were the Jewel runs. Ah, the Jewel Catalina deal. I was just sharing tales of my bounty at the parenting center where I'm getting some work done today, and the staff was so impressed they asked me to do a workshop on couponing. Fun!

I spent about $10 getting $400 worth of food in the Catalina deal.

I also spent about $15 on other items at Jewel -- some cheese, yeast, onions, tortillas and whatnot.

So, I spent about $60 on groceries this week. Yay me! I totally would have spent my whole $78 if I had had time to get to a store that sells beer (for the hubs), but it doesn't look like that's going to happen today. I may roll my extra $18 over to next week if I need it though, because there are a few things I'd like to get at Whole Foods like steel cut oats, whole wheat and wheat germ. We'll see.

I can't describe how thrilled I am about this week's shopping, and about the fact that I am facing the morning sickness weeks of my pregnancy with cupboards full of some convenience foods and a few meals in the freezer as well.

You rock!

Do you have any idea when the ConAgra deal will start at Jewel? It doesn't look like there's much stuff in that deal that we'll use, but I wouldn't mind stocking up on canned tomatoes for chili and some extras for food-pantry donations. :-)

From what I've read, I'm expecting it to begin this Thursday.

Surely you'll test the Conagra on regular prices for us, right? ;) I really want to try the Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers...scared to try, as some of my stores did NOT like me doing the $15 on $30 deals. ugh.

Oh, you know I will, Helen.

Helen, I read on AFC that the Fresh Mixers are NOT included in this deal. I could be wrong though as I have not verified it myself.

At JEWEL today they had Kellogs cereal bowls for free if you buy 2 Kelloggs cereals. Many varieties of their cereals are on sale for just over $2, so w/ the Kelloggs IP of $1/1, you can get two boxes of Kelloggs and a (big!) cereal bowl for just over $2. I got a Tinkerbell bowl for my tike :-)

This deal is already working even though its in Thursday's ad. Not sure of all the items that are working...but of special note are the Marie Callendar and Healthy choice dinners and the Healthy choice Paninis.

You need to buy 5 of the dinners or 6 of the paninis to get over $20 on regular price to trigger the cat. They are on sale through today 11/11 for $1.88. I've done this deal 3 times already so I can confirm that it IS working now!
