Shopping: Groceries for 10/29 - 11/4

OK, I vowed to not spend time shopping this week in order to focus on writing and making phone calls to support the Obama campaign. And I DID spend time volunteering, but there was a teensy bit of shopping as well.

As I mentioned last week, I spent $47 a day early at Fair Share Super Market so I wouldn't have to shop this week. Those provisions pretty much did see us through -- the only things I really needed to add were onions, flour and milk.

On Friday I needed flour to make pizza, so I stopped into Jewel and, lo and behold, the clearance cart was FULL of whole bean coffee marked down to $2.50 for 10-12 ounces. I bought 10 of them. I also made a mistake: I bought two bottles of juice that turned out to be diet. But at least they were bogo w/ a coupon so they only cost me $2.50 total. The Jewel tab was $31.46 altogether.

Yesterday, I stopped at Dominick's because I needed onions and oyster sauce for this recipe. I also grabbed two gallons of milk on sale for $1.99 each, and later I went back for 2 more when we were picking up our free pumpkins. The total at Dominick's for both trips was $22.

So I spent about $100 this week. I know -- it is really beginning to be false advertising for me to say that I spend $80 a week. But all that coffee was obviously not consumed this week. We drink just under one bag a week, so I am going to go ahead and say I MADE budget this week, but I am going to deduct $2 EVERY WEEK UNTIL JUNE for coffee. Basically, my budget is now lowered to $78 indefinitely.

Heh. We'll see how that goes.
