More Proof That I Should Never Be Allowed to Sign Up for Free Trials

A while back I signed up for something called Great Fun to get a discount on something or other. I called in to cancel well before the free trial ended, but the woman on the phone actually convinced me to wait and check the service out. I thought, gosh, I have another month (or whatever), I should investigate this site for the blog.

Last night, I sat bolt upright in bed, realizing that I had never cancelled this thing and now I couldn't even remember what it was called. Today, I got my credit card bill, and there it was: $12.99 billed by "Great Fun."

Yeah, whoo-hoo. Great.

I have no idea if this service is good or worthwhile, because I never got around to logging into it. I want to tell you, though, that this Great Fun place has really nice customer service. I called as soon as I opened my bill, and the agent cancelled my membership and processed a refund very cheerfully. No questions asked.

Once again, I am reminded that if something happens that you don't like, for God's sake, call! Bank fees, credit card fees, membership fees -- most things can be reversed.

I actually had a VERY BAD experience with this company! After my Mother got very ill and I had to start paying their bills i found NUMEROUS charges from Great Fun and other companies related to them (I found out later) - I had to make NUMEROUS calls to cancel memberships, and finally had to report them to the BBB to get their money back, it took me well over 8 months - this company has NUMEROUS complaints against it for charging for these so called "memberships" and preying on the elderly.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry you had to go through that, Cheryl. I will be watching my statement VERY carefully to make sure I get refunded and do not continue to be charged.

I did a free trial thing with them last year to get $20 off a hotel reservation (Hotwire thing). My membership was easily cancelled after one phone call, it was just getting them to actually cancel it. About three times the guy on the phone said "Okay, we'll just go ahead and continue your membership" and then made like the call was over. Even after I specifically said I wanted to cancel.
