Free (or Half Price) Babysitting on Election Day

I just read about this in Parenting magazine:

SitterCity and MamaVote.com are offering free and half-price sitters on Election Day, Nov. 4.

Here's how it works. Go on SitterCity between October 27 to November 3 and register with the code MAMAVOTE08. The first 50 people to sign up get two hours of babysitting FREE on election day. Apparently MamaVote is a partnership between the League of Women Voters and something called TodaysMama.

After that first 50, anyone else can get 2 hours at half price. The prices vary -- I'm guessing the sitters set them themselves, but in the Western Chicago suburbs, it appears that the going rate is $10-$20 an hour (which is why we never go out unless using our neighborhood babysitting coop or free family sitters!).

Enter your zip code on the front page of SitterCity to see if they offer sitters in your area.

Since I am normally up late, I think I will register just after midnight on Oct. 27 to see if I can get a couple free hours. I always like to take my kids with me while voting, but I did want to do some "get out the vote" volunteering on that day.

P.S. This just in: Free sitters will only go to those voting for Obama.

P.P.S. Just kidding. Kidding! That would be illegal. After watching this video, though, I don't know how many moms could vote otherwise, whether they are Pro-Life or Pro-Choice.
