Crappity Crap Crap CRAP!

When I spent $600 on Jewel gift cards earlier this year, I thought, this will be handled by the new, organized me. The one with the tidy coupon file to keep track of those valuable cards.

Yeah, apparently it's the same old me here. And now I know: Do not spend hundreds of dollars on gift cards because I will probably lose them.

This morning I took the girls to Fair Share foods. Looked through my coupon file many times, didn't end up using a single coupon. My last memory of it is when it was sort of tucked under my arm as we approached the checkout. I think. You'd think I would have slipped it into my bag since I didn't need it. Or maybe I had let the baby play with it.

You can see where this is going. Just now I looked for my coupon file to write up a post about an upcoming deal. It's nowhere. Searched my shopping bag where it should have been, the car, the empty grocery bags, the fridge WITH the groceries. Nowhere. Called the store, they haven't seen it.

Of course not. The store is not in a great neighborhood. Whoever found it probably took it home. Little do they know the value of what they just grabbed.

Sigh. I don't think I have the receipt from buying the gift card. Don't know if that would help anyway. I do know that it still has most of the $300 it had when I got it. And yes, there are all my grocery coupons, painstakingly clipped and newly organized this weekend. But really, who cares, compared to losing three hundred DOLLARS.

That was one expensive lesson.

All I can think to do, besides searching for the gift card receipt, is to go back to the store and search the parking lot and aisles. I can't do that until hours from now, though, since the baby is sleeping. And really, I have very low antipation of finding it.

Update: Found the receipt and called Jewel's customer service line. Nothing they can do about it. They couldn't even tell me how much balance I had left, since the receipt only had the last four digits of the card number.

Update 2: Went back to the store and searched, asked again. No dice. Even looked in the trash cans. Left my number in case it turns up, but am NOT expecting to hear anything. Sigh.

Oh that bites! Sorry! Though I am glad I am not the only one who does things like that. I hope you find it!

My sympathies. At least you can keep track of your Extracare Bucks--which is more than I can say for myself.

Ugh! You know, don't give up hope that some one handed it in. Check in the stores adjacent to Jewel, if there are any. My sister found her wallet that way, and I've had good luck with people turning in things I've lost. Good luck.
