Finally, an Under-Budget Grocery Week

I meant to spend my whole grocery allowance this week, but with the kids still on California time after our whirlwind trip to BlogHer, I just couldn't get around to it. Oh, and since we shopped for the first time of the week on Wednesday, it wasn't that hard to stay under budget. In fact, we still have a lot of food left.

So I only spent $60 of my $80 budget. I was going to pick up some wine and beer with the extra $20, but now tomorrow is Saturday and a whole new week, and my in-laws came over tonight with three bottles of wine, bless their hearts. So I'm using the extra $20 to "buy" a bottle of vodka that we bought weeks ago, over budget, but haven't opened at all.

Yep, it's all about booze, booze, booze around here. That's why I nearly lost it today while visiting a new OB-GYN, a kindly older man who told me, "you don't smoke or drink, I can tell by looking at you."

Honestly, we don't drink *that* much. But it's expensive so it ends up being an issue week after week with the budget.

Anyway, here are the highlights of my two shopping trips:

Fair Share Foods
10 yogurt cups @22 cents each after coupon
3 pounds breakfast sausage @ $1 each
tons of seasonal fruit

3 containers Funfetti frosting (4th of July themed) @ $1 each
2 half-gallons organic milk @ $2.45 (altho it is heat-treated, which I recently read detracts from the nutritional value and also should give you an idea that it's not exactly local. sigh.)
1 bag of spinach salad @ 99 cents

At CVS, I did the diaper deal once and plan to finish a second go-round (on my husband's account) tomorrow. Here's what I got:

1) Cost me $11 in ECBs and 2 cents in cash:
3 jumbo packs diapers

2) Cost me 1ECB and $1 off gift card:
1 box wipes
1 bottle children's tylenol
2 tiny boxes tampons
1 pack pantyliners

Tomorrow, I'll get:
1 jumbo pack diapers
1 baby thing for $3 (butt cream??)
1 pack pantyliners.

I should pay $6, after coupons, and get 6ECBs back.

That's shoplifting with permission, folks! Free diapers and free wipers.

I understand what you're talking about completely. My hubby & I don't drink a lot, but we are young & do enjoy some beers or mojitos on the weekend. So, we grow our own mint & only allow ourselves to purchase the alcohol &/or other ingredients with our entertainment money for the month. So if we don't have any entertainment money, no booze.
